Accelerated Ocean Solutions Program

Ocean technology companies will be able to access up to $2 million per project through the Accelerated Ocean Solutions Program, a $35 million program offered by Canada’s Ocean Supercluster. The objective of the new program is to encourage investment and innovation to help build resiliency in the ocean sector during this challenging economic time. Projects that receive funding through this new program will be shorter in duration (6-18 months) and eligible for less money than the core Ocean Supercluster program, “Technology Leadership.” A call for proposals for the program was issued on May 8 and companies will have until May 22 to submit an expression of interest. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business Covid-19 Survey Results

Every Friday during the COVID-19 pandemic, CFIB sends an online survey to its members to understand how businesses are impacted by the pandemic and what support they need. The most recent survey was issued on May 8 and as of May 11, 6,404 responses have been received from small businesses across Canada. The survey found that 42% of businesses are concerned with accessing PPEs, and this concern is increasing. In Nova Scotia, the top concerns are access to disposable face masks (67%), gloves (45%) and thermometers (21%).

CFIB Facebook page for PPEs

As consultations with sectors begin around the province, industries are being asked to develop a framework outlining their approach to reopening and operating in a way that will meet public health criteria. As part of that framework, it is essential that businesses are able to demonstrate that they have the equipment and supplies necessary to keep employees and customers safe. To help, CFIB has created a Facebook page called PPEs for SMEs. The page will help connect Canadian business owners looking to buy and sell PPE and supplies: PPEs for SMEs
