HR Conference 2023
May 18, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Phil Jewel
Keynote Speaker | "Serve to Lead"
Phil Jewell will share his three most important leadership principles, two practical questions any leader should ask and one thought to ponder.
He will do this while recounting his times on patrol in the wadi’s and deserts of Afghanistan and the lessons he learned on the way: ones that had been introduced to him during his training and became embodied during some of the most intense challenges a leader can face.
Subsequently becoming the cornerstone of his leadership, he will share how he has successfully transferred and applied them in his second leadership career outside the Army.
Regardless of the Industry or Sector, Phil strongly believes his 3-2-1 principles can be, and should be, universally applied. This follows his motto that Leadership is Leadership is Leadership and it starts with ones self, regardless of the industry or
profession.

"The Art and Effectiveness of the Elevator Pitch"
Regardless of what occupation you are in, we all need an elevator pitch. The 30 second speech, that is going to grab someone’s attention and make them want to ask more questions and get to know you better.
Jane Taber, Senior Vice President with NATIONAL Public Relations, is a former Globe and Mail political journalist, who spent more than 25 years covering Parliament Hill and Queen’s Park.
During her tenure on Parliament Hill with the Globe, Jane was also co-host of CTV’s Question Period – and she has spent more hours than she can count on campaign buses and planes following the leaders during federal election campaigns. She’s interviewed the country’s main political players, covered leadership contest, trade deals, international summits and the important issues of the day.

"Inclusivity in the Workplace: What it is, what it isn't"
Carolyn Landry, a member of the Annapolis Valley First Nation, will explore Inclusivity in the Workplace – what it is, what it isn’t, if there are barriers or issues around the topic and how do we work it out. Through gentle and easy teachings, Carolyn will bring everyone together to explore personal thoughts and definitions of inclusivity and move towards a collective definition and meaning where everyone is included. This process will create a safe environment of sharing, exploring, reflecting and eventually, change. The change is the result of the practice, so it replaces our ways of thinking that no longer serve us and replaces it with a new way of thinking and being which serves everyone. This would be Carolyn’s definition of Inclusivity.
